Tim Burton’s Ode to Schlock Director ‘ED WOOD’ is Finally Scheduled for Blu-ray

After suffering through Burton‘s last two cinematic travesties (Alice in Wonderland, Dark Shadows), the least fans of the director should receive is one of his renowned classics finally on Blu-ray.  For many people including myself, Ed Wood (1994) exists as one of Burton’s best films and one of his most heartfelt passion projects.  It’s a touching look at one of Hollywood’s most infamously “bad directors” who many remember for the campy classic Plan 9 From Outer Space.  While Burton’s film goes into the making of that film, it also delves into the personal life of the odd director who apparently enjoyed wearing ladies undergarments.  You can find out more about the life of this director and why Tim Burton decided to make a film about him when the Blu-ray of Ed Wood comes out on September 18.  Tech specs and bonus materials for the release have not yet been detailed.  Early package art for the disc can be found below. There is not a pre-order setup through Amazon just yet.

Ed Wood is a biopic of the life and work of the legendary ‘worst director of all time’, ‘Edward D. Wood Jr.’ , concentrating on the best-known period of his life in the 1950s, when he made Glen or Glenda (1953), Bride of the Monster (1955) and Plan 9 from Outer Space (1959), and focusing on both his transvestism and his touching friendship with the once great but now ageing and unemployed horror star Bela Lugosi.

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
