‘Straw Dogs’ Remake gets Ready to Siege DVD & Blu-ray

Mostly overlooked when it was released earlier this year in theaters ( from what I hear rightfully so), the James Marsden and Kate Bosworth starring Straw Dogs remake will hit DVD shelves just in time for Christmas. Both versions deal with how a mainly quiet, subdued man has to confront his own personal demons when instigated by a group of hostile men.  As a result, ideas of masculinity and jealousy  are explored in rather violent ways. The remake of Sam Peckinpah’s controversial thriller is set to hit stores on December 20.  The special features and look at the front and back cover can be found below.  For a film that got mainly blasted by critics as being a weak and unnecessary remake, I am quite surprised with the amount of extra features they have pooled together for this release.

STRAW DOGS Special Features:
• Commentary with writer/director Rod Lurie
• Four behind-the-scenes featurettes:
– Courting Controversy: Remaking a Classic
– The Dynamics of Power: The Ensemble
– Inside the Siege: The Ultimate Showdown
– Creating the Sumner House: The Production Design

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
