A 25th Anniversary Edition of EVIL DEAD II will be possessing Blu-ray this November

With its tongue now more firmly in its cheek, Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn was unleashed on audiences in 1987.  Sam Raimi incorporated more campy Three Stooges-esque humor in the second entry following the exploits of everyone’s favorite chin, Bruce Campbell.  Why the lovable Ash returns to the possessed cabin in the woods will never be fully understood.  Yet, I think we can all be grateful for the fact that he did.  Evil Dead 2 was previously released on Blu-ray in 2007, and the disc was met with such animosity from the fan-driven deadites.  With the new “25th Anniversary Edition,” not only will we see a wealth of new special features exclusive to the blu-ray, but we will also get a new transfer.  Keep reading to hear about the new picture quality, read about the special features, and get a glimpse at the brand-spanking new cover art.

Blu-ray.com got word about the upcoming release that is set to hit stores November 15th.

In regards to the video transfer, Red Shirt Pictures’ Michael Felsher told Fangoria Magazine that “Lionsgate is aware of how dissatisfied people were with the transfer on the previous Evil Dead II Blu-ray, and are taking steps to solve that issue for the new edition.”

What is great about this new Lionsgate release is the number of new features on the disc.  Evil Dead fans are known for collecting numerous versions of the films in order to assemble all of the interviews and commentaries they can get their hands on.  Listed below are the supplements found on this new version as well as the cover-art.  Hopefully this will be the final version that I will have to buy of this great film.  Yet, knowing Lionsgate and their toying with Evil Dead fans . . . I’m sure that this won’t be the final release.  Hopefully they will wait at least five years before a new edition.

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
