Local Horror – Zombie Walk!

Have you ever practiced shuffling around your house with a slight limp, old bacon fat hanging from you face, and groaning like you have a bad case of indigestion?  Okay … that doesn’t bring to mind the scariest walking zombie you have ever seen in the movies, but it is still fun to do.  Yet if you do feel like looking like a “REAL” scary decayed zombie and want to walk through the streets scaring little children, you might be interested in this event here in St. Louis.  The St. Louis Zombie Walk is having there event this Saturday, October 23 from 6 – 8:30.  To add to the creepy scene, the organizers will have make-up artists on hand to give you a bloody good make-over.  Where is this lumbering mass of zombies going to attack? Find out where beyond the break.

When Andy caught up with Theo, one of the administrators of the upcoming Zombie Walk, questions were asked:

Andy: How did this all come about?
Theo: Around last year around Halloween, my girlfriend at the time caught a link about a Zombie Walk in San Diego taking place.  We thought we should do something exactly like that in St. Louis.  We have been planning this since April of this year.

Andy: The organization that you chose to assist is the Crohn’s and Cholitis Foundation of America.  I was just curious, why this organization?
Theo: We first wanted to do something that helped out organizations assisting in something like Alzheimer’s or brain cancer research because we wanted a mantra like “Because Healthy Brains Taste Better”.  But, we decided against that so we didn’t offend anyone by saying that their brains don’t taste as good.  We actually have a few of our friends, one of our good friend’s wife has Crohn’s disease and another good friend’s mother has Cholitis and it has been hard seeing them go through life, uh, living with, pretty much, pain from whatever you eat. So, um, if you are going to eat brains, you should be able to enjoy them as well.

Andy: Fast Zombies or Slow Zombies?
Theo: Fast Zombies.  I think they present a greater threat.  With slow zombies, you can simply walk around most of them which would give you an opportunity to plan better.  With fast zombies, you have to really think on your feet.

Andy: Are you encouraging fast zombies in the Zombie Walk?
Theo: In the crosswalk, yes.

Andy: Will you have brains at the finish line?
Theo: No.  We couldn’t find any at time.  But, there will be raffle prizes.

The zombie hoard will be attacking the Delmar Loop this Saturday.  At 6:00 pm, guests will meet in the parking lot behind Starbucks at Leland Ave and Delmar Blvd. Registration papers will have to be filled out as well as a Code of Conduct Agreement that everyone must sign.  At 7:00 pm they will begin the walk, going down Delmar and end at Skinker.  If you thought zombies didn’t have hearts, the group will be  raising money for the Crohn’s and Cholitis Foundation of America as well.  So if you attend, please donate money to a really great cause!  There will also be special discounts for all zombies on the night of the event in the loop. The Market Pub House will give all zombies 10% off their bill as well as having a special shot for the zombie walk. Subway will also feed every zombie a cookie for free!  Keep in mind, if you really are a zombie, that cookie would not nourish you ( so BYOB – Bring Your Own Brains).

Also, don’t forget, if you show up as a zombie to DESTROY THE BRAIN’s LATE GRINDHOUSE presents EVIL DEAD 2 at The Hi-Pointe, your admission is only $4!  Click here for more details on that.

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
