[Inked In Blood] New And Upcoming Comics For February 12th

IN SHOPS THIS WEEK:

PROMETHEUS OMEGA

Writer: Kelly Sue DeConnick
Artist: Agustin Alessio
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
Price: $5
Description: Angela and her fellow survivors are stranded on LV-223, but their mission is not over yet. The answer to their quest could be hidden deep underground, but the strangest nightmare of all stands in their way.

Our Take: Don’t let the Prometheus title fool you, this ties into the Predator and Aliens titles that also comprised the Fire & Stone quadrilogy, which we covered heavily last year. This capstone title entwines the various threads while telling its own story in the capable hands of Fire & Stone mastermind Kelly Sue DeConnick.

THE HARVESTER #1

Artist: Eric Battle
Publisher: Legendary Comics

Description: Since the dawn of time, mischievous troublemakers have been warned of his wrath, scholars have searched for traces of his existence and evildoers have been tormented by the unstoppable force that goes by a single name: The Harvester. Witness the dawning of a legend as The Harvester rises, enforcing his own breed of blood-spattered justice as he battles an unruly biker gang terrorizing a small town. In the wake of the emergence, a young academic obsessed with finding the truth partners with a rogue investigator eager to join her hunt. Together, they just might expose the Harvester for whoever – or whatever – he really is.

Our Take: Brandon Seifert is the author of the incredibly underrated Witch Doctor comics and his latest comic looks intriguingly weird; a horror-themed vigilante?

PLUNDER #1

Writer: Swifty Lang
Artist: Skuds McKinley
Publisher: BOOM! Studios
Price: $4
Description: After facing off with an illegal Chinese vessel, a gang of Somali pirates tries to board what they think is a research vessel, only to find themselves in the midst of a massacre. As their worst nightmares become reality, the 14-year-old boy who went from translator to reluctant pirate not only becomes the key to survival, but must decide for himself how far he is willing to go in the name of self-preservation. Our Take: Written by relatively green talent with one series under his belt and drawn by an even fresher artist whose work looks phenomenal. With a premise like that, this could be ground-breaking. In Shops: February 18th, 2015

MISTER X: RAZED #1

Writer/Artist: Dean Motter
Artist: Ty Templeton
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
Price: $4
Description: Radiant City is a metropolis as mysterious as its alleged creator-Mister X. What should’ve improved the city left it cursed. Now, Mister X must watch over the City of Dreams turned City of Nightmares, keeping vigil during a holiday season that’s anything but jolly. Our Take: I will never, ever complain about a new Mister X miniseries. Reaching as far back as the early nineties, Dean Motter’s landmark pulp horror sci-fi noir (yeah, all of ’em) is always a thrill to read, as both the titular character and his city provides endless gritty, weird tales to unfold. More excitingly, he’s brought on a new artist who fits the Mister X style perfectly. In Shops: February 25th, 2015.

THE FADE OUT TP

Writer: Ed Brubaker
Artist: Sean Phillips
Publisher: Image Comics
Price: $10
Description: A movie stuck in endless reshoots, a writer damaged from the war and lost in the bottle, a dead movie star and the lookalike hired to replace her. Nothing is what it seems in the place where only lies are true. Our Take: I’m not even being hyperbolic when I say that Brubaker and Phillips make the best modern pulp comics. It’s just a fact. Their Cthulhu noir series Fatale has pretty much taken on legendary status for making Lovecraft hip again. The Fade Out strips away the veneer of space gods and exposes the all too human heart of true horror.  In Shops: February 25th, 2015
