New Poster for ‘THE BOURNE LEGACY’ Promises the Unexpected

Is Jeremy Renner going to take over every major franchise? First, he’s brought in for M:I 4 and is rumored to be the new star of the series.  Next, we have him filling Matt Damon’s shoes in the upcoming The Bourne Legacy. Plus, don’t forget he’s co-starring in the film Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters and The Avengers, which both have the potential to launch into a series of films.  The man made an explosion with The Hurt Locker and the impact of that is still continuing on.  The first photo of Renner as Aaron Cross in The Bourne Legacy was first released last week (you can see it above), now the first teaser poster can be seen.  It’s a fairly generic image with a dull tagline to match.  Tony Gilroy, who acted as screenwriter on the previous films, will be stepping in as director on the film.  We also know that Matt Damon and his character Jason Bourne WILL NOT appear in the film.  Gilroy has stated this about the project:

“This is not a reboot or a recast or a prequel. No one’s replacing Matt Damon. There will be a whole new hero, a whole new chapter…this is a stand-alone project… The easiest way to think of it is an expansion or a reveal. Jason Bourne will not be in this film, but he’s very much alive.”

As a fan of the series, I’m nervous but curious about this new installment.  We will have to see if Renner can carry on the franchise when the film opens in theaters on August 3.

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. The battle between these two worlds has finally ceased with his current position as Managing Editor for DestroyTheBrain.com. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.
