It’s Alive! New Photos of Tim Burton’s ‘Frankenweenie’ Emerge

Long before Tim Burton was attempting to make “creepier” versions of Alice in Wonderland and Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, he made quirky and demented little short films that had a lot of heart.  One of which was Vincent; A loving ode to the director’s love of the macabre tales of Edgar Allan Poe narrated by horror icon Vincent Price.  The other was Frankenweenie. It doesn’t take a doctor to figure out that the short was comedic take on the Frankenstein story.

Though the recent buzz may all be about the director’s upcoming take on Dark Shadows, these new photos from the feature length version of Frankenweenie should remind horror fans of Burton’s other pet project.  Entertainment Weekly has revealed the first photos from the full lenght film set to be released Oct. 5, 2012.  The stills not only hold true to the look of the 1984 creative short, but they remind us that Burton can still do something other than just a remake or adaptation.  It’s kind of sad to think that since 2001’s Planet of The Apes, the director has only made a few original projects while the other five have all been either a remake or an adaptation of a previous film, play, or tv show.  Hopefully Frankenweenie will give life to some new and fresh ideas instead of playing “mad scientist” to old ones.  Click the link all the way at the bottom of the page to read what Burton has to say about the film.
